Following her husband’s tragic death, Detective Maria Wern moved her young family to Gotland. Known as an idyllic holiday island favoured by Swedish tourists during the summer months, the police on Gotland are used to dealing with petty crime and speeding tickets. However big city cases seem to follow Maria from Stockholm, and a series of high profile murder cases make it difficult for her to change her pace of life.
As well as her police work, Maria must battle with the various stresses of her personal life; raising her family alone, grieving for her lost husband, and dealing with the advances, both welcome and otherwise, of new love interests.
A hugely popular series in Sweden, Maria Wern is one of the longest running crime series in the Nordics, with a hugely loyal fan following in much of Europe.
