Maria Wern
Following the traumatic death of her husband, Detective Maria Wern leaves the big city behind and moves with her young family from Stockholm to the idyllic island of Gotland in search of a calmer life. Instead, she finds herself drawn into a succession of unusual and dangerous crimes that reveal a darker side to the popular holiday destination. Alongside her demanding police work, Maria must navigate life as a single mother to Emil and Linda as they grow up, while also finding love again with her colleague Sebastian Ståhl. As Sebastian becomes her partner both at work and at home, and an important part of the family, Maria continues to balance motherhood, love and a career that repeatedly places her at the center of Gotland’s most challenging investigations.
One of the longest running crime series in Sweden, Maria Wern has won millions of fans worldwide with its unique mix of tense crime stories and family drama. Sweden’s favourite female detective returns for another season in 2026.
