Love Child
1969, Sydney: a boarding house where unmarried, underage women live and work during their pregnancy, before being promptly separated from their newborns. Insensitive male doctors, a stiff matron, a rebellious newcomer, a female doctor with a secret past, and an ensemble of pregnant female characters who are diverse in looks, life experience and attitudes populate this warm, heartbreaking and relatable drama. Stories of young women and men fighting an unjust system are as relevant today as they were in the colourful and liberating world of Kings Cross in 1969. Based on the real life forced adoption in Australia, for which former Prime Minister Julia Gillard offered a national apology to those affected in 2013.
