Eccho Rights to represent Love Me worldwide

Dec 13, 2019

Eccho Rights have agreed a deal with Warner Bros. International Television Production (WBITVP) Sweden to represent Swedish comedy drama LOVE ME worldwide, one of the most successful titles coming out of Scandinavia this year.

Premiering on NENT Group’s streaming service Viaplay on Oct 11th, the series has received not only critical acclaim but rapidly rose to become the best performing drama to have ever been launched on the platform. It is written and directed by Josephine Bornebusch, one of the most prolific Swedish actresses famous for her performances in “Solsidan” and “Welcome to Sweden”. In addition to having created the show, she also stars in the main role. Sverrir Gudnason (Borg vs McEnroe) and Gustav Lindh (Queen of Hearts) form part of the cast as well.

Ahead of its premiere, the series was already renewed for a second season with filming currently underway. LOVE ME furthermore forms part of the lineup for the C21 International Drama Summit this week in London with a screening set for Thursday, Dec 5th, at 13.30, Kings Place.

“I am very happy to partner with Eccho Rights on the distribution of LOVE ME and look forward to the show reaching audiences across the globe. This warm and humorous series offers true-to-life characters that lend themselves to a feeling that this story is taking place here and now. We see a great potential for it to travel very well,” says Johan Hedman, Head of Drama at WBITVP Sweden.

Eccho Rights lands Turkish dramas on Portugal's SIC

Eccho Rights has secured a significant deal with Portuguese free-to-air broadcaster SIC, licensing a string of acclaimed Turkish drama series to the channel. The agreement sees SIC acquire I Am Mother, My Home My Destiny, A Journey to Belong, Elif and Wounded Birds, adding a substantial new tranche of Turkish drama content to the broadcaster's schedule.

The deal was concluded by Melis Hamamcıoğlu, Sales Executive at Eccho Rights for Portugal, and comes ahead of the international content market Content Europe, which takes place in Lisbon this week (April 21–23).

Melis Hamamcıoğlu commented: "This is a really exciting moment for Eccho Rights in Portugal. SIC remains the country's biggest broadcaster, and bringing such a strong and diverse slate of Turkish titles to their schedule reflects the growing confidence Portuguese audiences have shown in this genre. With Content Europe taking place in Lisbon this week, the timing could not feel more apt — it is a wonderful demonstration of the momentum Turkish drama continues to build right across Europe."

The deal reinforces Eccho Rights' growing footprint in the Iberian market, following recent sales activity across Spain and Latin America.

Eccho Rights launches Latest Kanal 7 Drama, Zerhun

Eccho Rights has secured international distribution rights to Zerhun, the new daily drama produced by Sincar Medya Group for Turkish broadcaster Kanal 7. The series is currently on-air in Turkey.

Zerhun marks the latest chapter in the long running collaboration between Eccho Rights and Kanal 7, a partnership that has delivered multiple global successes. Previous titles include Legacy, Winds of Love, and Behind the Veil, the latter continuing to hold its position as the highest rating daily drama series ever broadcast in Turkey, and renewed for its fourth season earlier this week.

Handan Özkubat, Director of Turkish Drama at Eccho Rights, said:“We are proud to continue our successful cooperation with Kanal 7 by representing Zerhun. Kanal 7 has consistently demonstrated its ability to produce daily dramas that resonate deeply with audiences both in Turkey and internationally. Zerhun is another powerful example of their expertise in delivering emotionally rich, highly engaging storytelling that travels across borders.”

At the centre of Zerhun is a sweeping, emotionally charged story of love torn apart by manipulation and power. Eight years ago, Zerhun and Yaman defied their influential families to marry for love, only for Yaman’s father, Şeyhmuz, to frame Zerhun as a traitor and force them apart. Believing the lies, Yaman abandoned her, unaware that she was carrying his child. Zerhun vanished and raised their daughter, Hayat, in secret. Years later, a deathbed confession exposes the truth, drawing Zerhun back into the family’s imposing mansion when Yaman demands a DNA test. A sudden accident leaves him with amnesia, Hayat is taken into the dynasty’s care, and Zerhun returns as an employee to remain close to her daughter. As memories resurface and internal rivalries intensify, Zerhun’s battle shifts from reclaiming lost love to protecting her child from a family built on pride, power and control.
