Desperate Measures pre-sold worldwide

Jan 20, 2023

Channel 5 drama Desperate Measures, produced by Clapperboard, has been acquired by SBS Australia, TVNZ in New Zealand, while in Europe, Virgin Media Television Ireland, TV4 in Sweden and MTV3 in Finland have all licensed the 4-part show.

Amanda Abbington (Sherlock, Mr Selfridge) stars as Rowan, a diligent, hardworking single mother who turns to a daring heist in an attempt to save her son from a local drug lord. Alongside Abington, Desperate Measures stars Warren Brown (The Responder, Trigger Point) Sunetra Sarker (Casualty, Ackley Bridge) and Francis Magee (Game of Thrones).

“Though the lengths to which Rowan goes are quite extraordinary, this is a story of a mother doing whatever it takes to protect her son; a truly universal theme that audiences anywhere can relate to,” says Lucy Roberts, Director of Sales, Western Europe at Eccho Rights.

The action thriller is set for premiere in Q1 2023 in the UK.

Eccho Rights expands CEE Presence with new premium drama sales

Eccho Rights has secured a new round of sales for its premium Turkish drama slate across Central and Eastern Europe, underlining the region’s continued enthusiasm for high end scripted series from Turkey.

The latest deals include the sale of I Am Mother (produced by O3 Medya for Show TV) to Hungary’s MTVA and Georgia’s IMEDI, Golden Boy (produced by OGM Pictures for Star TV) to Slovakia’s Voyo, and Cennet (produced by Surec Film for ATV) to Ukraine’s Bigudi.

Berkin Nalbantli, Sales Executive for CEE and Africa at Eccho Rights, said: “These series each tell a very different story, but they share the same emotional core that CEE audiences respond so strongly to, complex characters navigating betrayal, identity and resilience. Themes like these cut across borders, and right now buyers in the region are very clear about what they are looking for. Turkish drama continues to deliver it.”

The agreements highlight the ongoing demand for Turkish primetime storytelling across CEE, where broadcasters continue to rely on strong character driven dramas to anchor their schedules.

Eccho Rights closes new deals for Winds of Love

Eccho Rights has finalised deals in Bosnia, Lithuania, Serbia and Montenegro for the Turkish daily drama series Winds of Love.

Winds of Love, produced by Unik Film & Rains Pictures for Kanal 7, is a sweeping romantic drama following Halil, a young man driven by a desire for revenge against the family that destroyed his own until an unexpected and powerful connection with Zeynep, the fierce and captivating daughter of his enemies, forces him to question everything. The series ran for two seasons on Kanal 7, accumulating a combined episode count of over 370 episodes across both runs.

The new deals follow an earlier wave of sales in CEE, which saw the series acquired by broadcasters in Poland, Israel, Romania, Georgia and North Macedonia, underlining the broad and sustained international appetite for the title.

Berkin Nalbantli, Sales Executive for CEE and Africa at Eccho Rights: "Winds of Love has found a home in so many different markets because it taps into something genuinely universal - a story of love and loyalty tested by circumstance, with two lead characters that audiences can't help but fall for. The emotional pull of this series translates effortlessly across cultures, and these new deals are a reflection of that."

Winds of Love joins fellow Kanal 7 title Behind the Veil, which last month concluded sales across CEE, in demonstrating the enduring appetite broadcasters in the region have for long-form serialised storytelling. With their large volume, emotionally driven narratives and loyal audiences, Turkish daily dramas continue to offer broadcasters a reliable and compelling programming proposition.
