Eccho Rights to distribute Finland-Chile co-production Invisible Heroes
Eccho Rights have signed up Invisible Heroes, a YLE original series, for international distribution. The political thriller is produced by Kaiho Republic in Finland and Parox in Chile. The series is commissioned by Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE in association with Chilevision.
Inspired by true events, Invisible Heroes follows the remarkable exploits of Finnish diplomat Tapani Brotherus who, working in secret, helped secure asylum in Europe for more than 2 000 Chilean citizens whose lives were under threat following General Pinochet’s military coup in 1973.
“This is an incredible story that will appeal to a wide international audience given its extraordinary subject matter that many will not have heard of before,” says Nicola Söderlund, Managing Partner at Eccho Rights. “From a production perspective the series is particularly fascinating, with Finnish and Chilean producers working together in Santiago to create a show with cast members from all over the world. We are excited to see how this sets a precedent for other ambitious co-production projects in the future."
The cast is led by Pelle Heikkilä who plays the role of Brotherus, Ilkka Villi as fellow diplomat Ilkka Jaamala and Sophia Heikkilä as Lysa Brotherus. Mikael Persbrandt appears as Swedish ambassador Harald Edelstam. Chilean actor Cristian Carvajal and German Sönke Möhring also appear in the 6-part international diplomacy drama.
“Creating a series with such a global cast, and production teams from countries as different as Finland and Chile of course had its challenges. But the amazing story that we are telling brought everyone together and the input of such a culturally diverse creative group really aided us in bringing this extraordinary series of events back to life,” says Liisa Penttilä-Asikainen, Executive Producer at Kaiho Republic.
The series will be on the agenda at next week’s NATPE as a headline item discussed during the session "Worldwide Co-Production: The New Business Standard”
Invisible Heroes is currently in post-production, and will premiere on YLE later this spring.
