Eccho Rights starts Secret Affair
International distributor Eccho Rights have agreed a deal with JTBC in Korea, to represent the format rights for Secret Affair, the award winning drama series.
The original series, which aired in 2014, won several prizes in Korea, including the Baeksang Arts Award for Best Screenplay.
Secret Affair tells the story of a forbidden love between a well-to-do, successful woman in her forties, and a much younger man. Though he has none of her class and sophistication, his prodigious musical talent is enchanting and the two are unable to resist each other.
"We are very proud of this script and judging by Eccho Rights' track record in creating excellent remakes with independent producers, we are looking forward to see it continue to travel in new markets,” says Paul Chong, Director of Emerging Markets at JTBC.
Though producing a series about an older woman falling for a young man was considered unconventional and daring for JTBC, Secret Affair scored record-breaking ratings for the channel.
“Secret Affair is a format we are delighted to add to our line up as it has such strong international potential. The love story is beautiful and tragic in equal measure, while the well known classical music at the core of this couple’s story will be an excellent hook for audiences all over the world,” says Deborah Youn, Distribution and Business Development Executive at Eccho Rights’ Seoul office.
