Football format scores in The Netherlands and Finland
u:Supporters is the ultimate football show that brings together fans and professional players in a video game tournament. And now the format is heading to The Netherlands and Finland.
In The Netherlands, Tuvalu will develop a version based on the Dutch Eredivisie football league featuring teams like Ajax and Feyenoord. Taco Zimmerman, creative director at Tuvalu, says, "Young men are historically a hard audience to attract, but u:Supporters taps into the biggest activity for this demographic - playing video games - and the biggest sport on earth - football.”
While in Finland, Yellow Film are developing a local adaptation based on a national ice hockey league. Milla Bruneau, COO Yellow Film & TV Group at Yellow Film, says “Since ice hockey is a bigger sport in Finland than football, we looked at how we could make it relevant for our audiences and ice hockey seems the natural choice.”
Nicola Söderlund, managing partner at Eccho Rights, comments, “The great thing about this format, which is illustrated by the deal in Finland, is that it is easy to adapt for local markets where football might not be the number one sport. I can imagine basketball or American football versions being popular in some territories.”

Sweden orders Nurses for local version
Sweden’s leading commercial broadcaster TV4 has ordered a local adaptation of hit Finnish drama Nurses from Bob Film. TV4 has commissioned two seasons of ten episodes, which will be called Syrror (Sisters). The first series will be broadcast later this year.
“Finally - TV4’s first medical drama! This is a story about all the big and difficult questions: life, death, love and pain. It’s a world that we sincerely hope will move our audience to both tears and laughter, and that Syrror will be nearly addictive to its viewers”, says Josefine Tengblad, head of drama at TV4 and C More.
Eccho Rights represents the Swedish version of the show and has already presold it to TV2 in Norway and DR in Denmark.
Last year, the distributor sold the rights for a UK remake to DLT and licenced the first two Finnish seasons to ProsiebenSat1, making Nurses the first Nordic series ever to air on a commercial broadcaster in Germany.
