Eccho Rights presents The Pretender
Eccho Rights have entered into an agreement with Russian producers Amedia Production to distribute brand new crime drama The Pretender. The series, an exciting and stylish 12-parter set after the Revolution of 1917, will air on Channel One in Russia later this year. Eccho Rights will present a first look at The Pretender for international buyers at MIPCOM this month.
The Pretender sees a provincial swindler find a golden opportunity for a big city heist, as a case of mistaken identity leads him in to the heart of the Leningrad police force. But once inside, his talent for police work is irresistible, as he uses his criminal instincts to solve cases that were previously out of reach for the old guard. As he gets particularly close to one new colleague, he decides he must follow this new path turning his back for good on his criminal past. But when gangsters to whom he still owes money show up, his true identity, new career and budding romance are all at risk.
“The Pretender is a fantastic production that we were eager to represent as soon as we saw it,” says Nicola Söderlund, Managing Partner at Eccho Rights. “The pacing, the look and the relationships will appeal to fans of crime series, period drama and even romance, where there is a lot of heart in this story about a man trying to do the right thing.”

Murder Squad joins Eccho Rights lineup
Eccho Rights has added Czech series Murder Squad (Mordparta) to its lineup, following a deal with broadcaster Prima. A premium crime drama, following the lives both private and professional of a team of investigators in Prague, Murder Squad was a great hit when it aired last year, scoring a 17% share for Prima. A second season just finished its run in the Czech Republic.
“We are very excited to welcome this series to our catalogue,” says Barbora Susterova, Head of Eccho Rights’ Madrid Office who brought the deal to the international distributor. “Demand for quality crime drama remains high, but it is the human elements of this series make it an even more interesting proposition for buyers looking for something a little different.”
Starring some of the Czech Republic’s top actors, including Jiří Bartoška and Markéta Plánková, Murder Squad follows the work of five top detectives, each with their own methods, quirks and personal dilemmas. Together they are a brilliant police unit, but when crime doesn’t stop at work for the detectives, the squad is faced with not only hunting down killers but also protecting their families and loved ones from real danger…
