My Home My Destiny sold to additional territories

Eccho Rights has concluded a string of deals for the Turkish Drama sensation My Home My Destiny with Pasiones in the US, Qazakstan TV in Kazakhstan, and Adom TV in Ghana, bringing the total number of countries that have acquired the series to over 90 worldwide.

Produced by OGM Pictures, My Home My Destiny broke viewing records on Turkey’s TV8 when it first aired in 2020 and quickly garnered a huge fan following in both the domestic and international markets.

PRO TV embark on THE CLAN spin-off

Romania’s PRO TV have begun production on Our Father (TĂTUȚU), a spin-off of The Clan (CLANUL), one of the most successful drama series in Romania for many years.

The Clan is based on the scripted format Insider (Icerde) from Turkish production giant Ay Yapim, which was licensed for remake to PRO TV by Eccho Rights. The original series was a groundbreaking success in Turkey, scoring unprecedented ratings for broadcaster Show TV, and the Romanian version continued this strong performance, winning huge audiences and overwhelmingly positive reaction from critics.

Hindi Remake of Ezel debutes on Disney+ Hotstar

Legendary Turkish Drama series Ezel has been remade in India, launching on Disney+ Hotstar under the local title Gunaah.

The original Ay Yapim production, created in 2009, was part of the original wave of Turkish Dramas to travel the globe, sold to more than 150 territories worldwide by distributor Eccho Rights.

Eccho has additionally licensed the scripts for remake in several territories, with new versions commissioned in Mexico, Russia, Armenia, and a hugely successful adaption in Romania, Vlad. The Indian version of Ezel is the first deal with Disney+ Hotstar for Eccho Rights and Ay Yapim. Eccho Rights will distribute the readymade rights for Gunaah outside of India.

Those About To Die coming to Budapest

Those About To Die, the forthcoming epic period drama starring Sir Anthony Hopkins, will be available to buyers at NATPE Budapest.

The title, directed by Hollywood legend Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow) is a Peacock Original, the streamer’s biggest budget production to date. Eccho Rights is handling first window sales throughout Central and Eastern Europe, as well as second windows in various Western European territories.

“This is a landmark series, and both in front of and behind the camera, we have a team of extraordinary talent and experience, making this a unique opportunity for buyers looking to bring Hollywood-scale production to their viewers,” says Herbert L. Kloiber, CEO of Eccho Rights.

Alongside Sir Anthony Hopkins, the series stars Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones), Tom Hughes (The English), Sara Martins (Death in Paradise), Jojo Macari (Sex Education), Moe Hashim (Ted Lasso) and Dimitri Leonidas (Riviera).

The Inheritance licensed to BritBox US and Canada

Eccho Rights has licensed The Inheritance to BritBox in the US and Canada, among a string of deals for the family thriller.

A co-production from Night Train Media, Lonesome Pine Productions and Peer Pressure, for Channel 5 in the UK, The Inheritance became the broadcaster’s number one rated series throughout 2023. The title has now been licensed to BritBox in the US & Canada, RTE in Ireland, NPO in the Netherlands, and Pickbox in Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Bulgaria.

Granite Harbour sold to new territories

Eccho Rights has closed a number of deals for the fish-out-of-water, crime drama Granite Harbour which recently aired its second season on BBC Scotland, BBC One and iPlayer.

BBC Studios have licensed Granite Harbour for BBC First in the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland, while TV2 Denmark and TV2 Hungary have both picked up the Aberdeen-set crime caper. BritBox International in the US and Canada, and Acorn TV in Australia and New Zealand, have previously acquired the series with their deals extending to both seasons.

Season two of Granite Harbour scored impressive ratings for BBC Scotland, with the premiere increasing on the broadcaster’s average share by more than 175%.

Kanal 7 renews Winds of Love

Winds of Love has been renewed to return later in 2024.

The first season premiered in January 2024 and has continued a string of recent successes for commissioner Kanal 7, whose latest title Behind the Veil, was launched during the recent MIPTV market in Cannes. The broadcaster also renewed another daily drama hit, Redemption, just two weeks ago.

“We first brought Winds of Love to the international market at Content Americas in January, and saw a warm reception for the series. Since then the title has gone from strength to strength in Turkey, as well as garnering a lot of international interest so we are delighted to see Kanal 7 committing to a renewal so early,” says Handan Özkubat, Director of Turkish Drama at Eccho Rights.

Greece’s Open TV launch My Sweet Lie remake

Open TV in Greece has launched “Like a Lie” (Σαν ψέμα), a brand new romantic comedy drama based on the Turkish format “My Sweet Lie”. The series which is airing in the early evening prime access slot, opened strongly, becoming the second-most watched program on Open TV on Monday.

Produced in 2019 by O3 Medya for Star TV, My Sweet Lie was an immediate hit and became the top performing drama series of the summer in Turkey that year.

Open TV is the second international broadcaster to commission a remake following the successful Slovakian adaptation for Markiza, "Mom for Rent” (Mama na prenájom), a second season of which is currently airing. The Slovak version was named among CeeTV’s CEE Breakout Hits of the Year in 2023.

“This is a unique and brilliant format, with a warm family story at its heart that lends itself perfectly to local adaptation. The original was a huge phenomenon and the Slovakian version has been a returning favourite for the past 18 months, so we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this latest version from our friends in Greece,” says Handan Özkubat, Director of Turkish Drama at Eccho Rights.
