Karadayi heading to Latin America
Eccho Rights builds on recent Turkish drama success in Latin America with two deals on Karadayi. Mega in Chile and Telefe in Argentina have both signed up for the series and will air the show under its original title. Broadcast will start almost immediately with Karadayi premiering on Mega in November and on Telefe on 1 December.
Earlier this year the two channels ordered the global Turkish hit Ezel from distributor Eccho Rights and the success of this show has led them to order Karadayi.
Barbora Susterova, sales and acquisitions director Latin America and Iberia at Eccho Rights, says, “Over the past year the demand for Turkish drama has really taken off in Latin America. The mixture of strong characters and engaging storylines appeals to the local audience and there are many similarities to the traditional telenovela format.
“With Turkish exports scoring well in the ratings we expect the popularity of the genre to continue to grow amongst broadcasters in the region and are confident we will close new deals at next week’s MIP Cancun.”
Karadayi comes from Turkish drama giants, Ay Yapim, the producers behind global hits Ezel, Fatmagül, and Black Money Love. In its native Turkey the most recent series of Karadayi regularly scored number one in the ratings and Eccho Rights have now sold the show to over 50 countries worldwide.
Karadayi tells the story of Mahir whose father ends up in jail for a murder he did not commit. Mahir sets out to find the real killer, drawing his family into a war with the criminals behind the crime. His quest for justice is complicated by an impossible love story involving the judge who holds his father’s fate in her hands.
