Eccho Rights brings Karadayi to the middle east
Eccho Rights success with Turkish drama continues as the distributor signs a series of deals in the Middle East. Working with four independent channels in the region, the company has agreed a package of licence deals that will see the Turkish drama Karadayi air simultaneously across the Middle East region.
Within this region, local broadcasters have traditionally distributed drama titles, making this deal the first time a non-broadcast company has handled the entire process. Eccho Rights teamed up with Qatar TV, CBC in Egypt, MTV in Lebanon and Rotana in the Gulf as broadcasting partners for Karadayi.
Karadayi comes from Turkish drama experts Ay Yapim, the producers behind global hits such as The End and Ezel. The show currently stands as the number one new series in Turkey and in the ten months since the show premiered Eccho Rights has sold the series to 40 countries worldwide.
Fredrik af Malmborg, Managing Director of Eccho Rights, says about the deal, “When we started talking about launching a Turkish drama with four separate broadcasters in the Middle East region there was a lot of skepticism that it would work. However, we could see the potential of this kind of deal. Now the agreements are signed and Karadayi is going on air. By season two, transmission across the region will be fully synchronised.
“Working with four separate broadcasters is a new way of doing business in this region and it has empowered those broadcasters with a more local focus. By building an alliance and bringing them together in a synchronised run, their position in the local market improves.”
Karadayi tells the story of Mahir who takes his place as head of his family when his father is found guilty of a murder he did not commit. Mahir sets out to find the real killer, drawing his respectable family into a war with the criminals behind the crime. The quest for justice is complicated by an impossible love story involving the judge who holds his father’s fate in her hands. The series stars the very top of the actors in Turkey including Kenan Imirzalioglu and Berguzar Korel.
