Football format scores in The Netherlands and Finland

u:Supporters is the ultimate football show that brings together fans and professional players in a video game tournament. And now the format is heading to The Netherlands and Finland.

In The Netherlands, Tuvalu will develop a version based on the Dutch Eredivisie football league featuring teams like Ajax and Feyenoord. Taco Zimmerman, creative director at Tuvalu, says, "Young men are historically a hard audience to attract, but u:Supporters taps into the biggest activity for this demographic - playing video games - and the biggest sport on earth - football.”

While in Finland, Yellow Film are developing a local adaptation based on a national ice hockey league. Milla Bruneau, COO Yellow Film & TV Group at Yellow Film, says “Since ice hockey is a bigger sport in Finland than football, we looked at how we could make it relevant for our audiences and ice hockey seems the natural choice.”

Nicola Söderlund, managing partner at Eccho Rights, comments, “The great thing about this format, which is illustrated by the deal in Finland, is that it is easy to adapt for local markets where football might not be the number one sport. I can imagine basketball or American football versions being popular in some territories.”

Perfidia to get UK remake

Perfidia, the award winning Argentine drama, is heading to the UK with DLT at the helm. Margaret Enefer and Donald Taffner Jr. will develop the project, with acclaimed British writer, Alan Whiting (Wire in the Blood, Half Broken Things, The Scarlet Pimpernel), adapting the three-part drama for UK audiences.

DLT’s President Don Taffner Jr. comments, “Perfidia gripped me right from the start with its combination evocative human emotion, thrilling plot and unexpected twists and turns. With Alan’s exceptional talent, this will be an unmissable piece of television.”

This is the second remake deal Eccho Rights has signed with DLT, following last year's deal on Scandi hospital drama Nurses (Yellow Film).

Nicola Söderlund, managing partner at Eccho Rights, says, “We’ve been selling a lot of shows into Latin America, so it’s great to announce a deal that sees traffic in the other direction. It’s a region that is traditionally known for the telenovela, but Latin America also has a growing reputation for high-end dramas. It's wonderful that DLT have recognised the quality of Perfidia and with a top-class team onboard we are sure the remake will be stunning."
