Phi - Ay Yapim’s first Turkish Drama Original

Ay Yapim have released a first look at their groundbreaking new series Phi. Created for the digital platform Puhu TV at 21x60' it is the first Turkish Drama Original to be distributed world wide by Eccho Rights. The series is based on the first in a trilogy of novels; Phi, Chi, Pi, by Azra Kohen, a million-seller in Turkey.

The story is a psychological, romance thriller centered around a celebrity psychiatrist, Can Manay. He is a serial womaniser, but his obsession with new neighbour Duru, will have consequences for a whole cast of characters, while shining a light on Manay's own dark past.

“We see this as the future of TV, which is why we’re investing in leading this movement. We believe in the importance and potential of OTT platforms, which we see reforming the style of storytelling and local content,” says Kerem Catay of Ay Yapim

The series will have its international premiere screening at MipTV in Cannes, Monday 3rd April 12pm, in Auditorium K.

Fatmagul Indian remake ready to air

Star India have released a first look at their brand new series Amala (Kya Qusoor Hai Amala Ka?) which will premiere April 3rd on the Star Plus channel.

The story of a young woman who must overcome a horrific group assault while confronting conflicting feelings for one of her attackers, the series is based on the series Fatmagul from Turkish producers Ay Yapim.

Eccho Rights will now represent the new series as a readymade worldwide, and have received a lot of interest based off just this short teaser trailer, as well as of course the reputation of the original series.

Fatamagul (Fatmagül'ün Suçu Ne?) is one of the most successful Turkish Drama series of all time. It has enjoyed enormous viewing figures around the world, but just as significantly has affected social change through its subject matter. The series opened up a number of debates around rape laws world wide, and is credited with empowering large numbers of women to speak up about their abuses, particularly across the Middle East.

Elif now in 22 countries world wide!

Broadcasters in Mexico, Paraguay, Hungary, Puerto Rico, Pakistan and Honduras are the latest to snap up Elif, Green Yapim's must-have daily drama.

The most successful show ever on Turkey's Kanal 7, the series first found international fame in 2015 when it became headline news as the top show in Indonesia, and received huge viewing figures across Eastern Europe. The latest success for the series has come in Latin America, where since debuting in August 2016 on Caracol in Colombia, the series has enjoyed a 30% share of the viewing public, while Chilean state broadcaster TVN reports an increase in rating from 4% up to 11% during broadcasts of the family drama. In Peru, Latina have already ordered seasons 2 and 3 having also seen impressive ratings during the first season.

Back in Turkey, Elif celebrated its 500th episode on Monday, with Eccho Rights estimating a total of 650 commercial hours available by the end of the current run this summer.

Heart Of The City coming to 3 new territories

Ay Yapim’s new series Heart Of The City is set to be broadcast in Romania, Iran and Iraq following the latest round of deals announced today by Eccho Rights.

The series, which debuted on ATV in January, is the latest from prolific Turkish producers Ay Yapim and writer Ece Yorenc, a partnership which has seen huge global success with Fatmagul, Forbidden Love (Ask-i Memnu), Kurt Seyit & Sura and Medcezir. Heart Of The City stars popular actors Kerem Bürsin (Seref Meselesi, Günesi Beklerken), Leyla Lydia Tugutlu (Karadayi) and Gürkan Uygun (Kacak).

The story of a young man raised at sea, Heart Of The City sees Ali (Bürsin) reunited with the city that he had tried to leave behind. Though he hates Istanbul and the painful memories that it holds for him, he finds himself drawn deep in to the city in pursuit of a beautiful girl. Ali soon finds far more to connect him to his hometown than he knew existed.

Six new deals for Insider!

Insider (Icerde) from Ay Yapim, the success of the season on Show TV in Turkey has now been picked up by an additional six countries. Channels in Greece, India, Romania, Iran, Iraq and Albania have all inked deals for the ratings smash hit.

"Insider is an amazing production, once again a No 1 series from Ay Yapim. The series is equally attractive to both female and male audiences, a signature for top Turkish dramas," says Fredrik af Malmborg, Managing Director of Eccho Rights.

Insider started its run in Turkey in September, and has been by far the top performing new show for the Fall/Winter season. With a stable 30% share every week in the commercial demo, the series scores nearly 4 times the average share for Show TV in this demo and time slot. The series airs on Monday night among fierce competition from two returning dramas, Orphan Flowers (Kirgin Cicekler) on ATV, and Broken Pieces (Paramparca) on Star TV, as well as the hugely popular Turkish version of Survivor, which returned to TV8 in January. However Insider remains number one in all categories, as well as scoring record-breaking viewing figures on Youtube where the first episode has now been watched over 10 million times.

Laura Miñarro is joining our team!

We are thrilled to announce that Laura Miñarro, a hugely experienced executive is joining our team in the role of Director of Co-productions and Scripted. Working from our Madrid office with Barbora Susterova, Laura will oversee Eccho Rights increasing efforts in the field of international co-production, particularly in the Spanish-speaking world.

Elif wins Latina awards and improves ratings in Chile

Latina, Peru's leading commercial television channel, staged the first Latina Turkish Awards last week, celebrating the enormous success of Turkish drama in the country. With a string of nominations for Elif, Isabella Damla the young star who plays the title role, picked up two awards, for Best Newcomer and Best Child Performer.

Meanwhile in Chile, the series goes from strength to strength. The first Turkish drama to be shown on national broadcaster TVN, Elif has grown ratings considerably for the channel since its debut in November. Initially impressing with a rating of 5,6% in November, the show is now already reaching upwards of 9% and continues to improve its performance each week. Elsewhere in Latin America the series continues to draw great audiences in Colombia and Costa Rica.

Natpe Miami

Natpe Miami was a fantastic market and we were very happy to take the opportunity to meet a huge number of our good friends and colleagues from the Americas. For many this was the first opportunity to see a number of the latest hit shows we are representing, such as Brave And Beautiful, Insider, Bitter Sweet Life and Heart Of The City.

Additionally Eccho Rights assisted in arranging the Global Track at Natpe, and had the privilege of coordinating on a panel discussion "Turkish Drama in Latin America: How Great Television Crosses Boundaries." Fredrik af Malmborg of Eccho Rights was joined on stage by Yamac Okur from Ay Yapim, Ignacio Barrera of Albavision, and Juan Vicente of Mega in Chile with Fabricio Ferrara of Prensario Internacional chairing the session.
